Ghost Hunters Episode Review: Return to St. Augustine (9/4/2019)

Image
Synopsis: Grant Wilson and his team conduct an investigation at a home in Hanover, Pennsylvania before traveling to St. Augustine, Florida to, once again, investigate the light house that has yielded paranormal evidence in the past. Review: As I've mentioned before , when my wife and I began watching this rebooted show, I had some doubts about it, mostly because I had become pretty disillusioned by the series well before the end of its initial run. However, despite that and the fact I'm a skeptic to begin with, I have been doing my best to give the show a fair shake. After finishing tonight's episode, however, I have to say I'm losing patience with the series. This is because this episode, quite frankly, represented pretty much everything that made me stop watching this series the first time around. First of all, the decision to have two investigations over the course of a one-hour episode never bodes well. There's just not enough time to conduct either i...

Ghost Hunters Episode Review: The Lady in the Window (8/28/2019)

Image
Synopsis: Grant Wilson and his team investigate a newly-remodeled house after the owner tells them he is interested in selling the building but believes there is something there that is preventing him from doing so. Review: I didn't get a chance to watch this episode when it first aired on Wednesday but, thanks to the magic of DVR, was able to finally watch it yesterday evening. Much like last week's season premiere, my overall impression was, at best, mixed. Once again, I am going to start out by giving kudos to Grant and his team for a couple things. Much like last week , they avoided investigating some tourist trap and, getting back to the show's roots, picked a private residence instead. This is something I enjoy much more because it does give the investigation at least some sense of legitimacy because most homeowners don't have a financial reason to prove their house is haunted. And, while they failed miserably at their efforts, I did appreciate the tea...

Ghost Hunters Episode Review: School Spirit (8/21/2019)

Image
Synopsis : Paranormal investigator Grant Wilson looks for supernatural evidence at an Idaho high school with a long history of urban legends and ghost sightings. Review: My wife and I were big fans of this show when it first came on the air back in 2004. However, by the end of its original 11-season run, we had pretty much lost interest in the series, mostly because we felt as though the show had gotten away from its roots and wasn't putting as much effort into the investigations as it used to. Plus, with the two spin-off series ( Ghost Hunters Academy and Ghost Hunters International ) it was pretty easy to get burned out on the whole concept. When I heard A&E was rebooting the series with just Grant Wilson at the helm, I wasn't really sure what to think and, despite some reluctance decided to give the show a second chance last night. Ultimately, my opinion of it was a bit mixed. I'll start out by saying I was a big fan of the decision to have the first inve...

Final Thoughts From the Kindred Spirits Episode "Don't Go Into the Attic"

Image
Synopsis : Amy Bruni and Adam Berry investigate a home after the family reports spiritual activity that started shortly after they opened up a previously-sealed attic. The episode first aired January 1, 2018. Review: 1. As is the case with many shows of this nature, there were some things that were explained as paranormal that probably had other, legitimate explanations. The lamp that turned off and on by itself, for example, could have had a short in it. And, more importantly, the report of a knife "flying" from the attic when it was opened up sounds a bit exaggerated (it probably just fell out of the attic). 2. I try, but I just can't accept the digital stick figures on their full spectrum camera as real evidence. Sure, the dots look like people. But, I only see the dots. I don't see the shadow figures they are supposed to be pointing out. I've honestly seen more convincing evidence on Polaroid photos. 3. I will admit, the voice recordings they capt...

Thoughts From the Kindred Spirits Episode "The Executioner"

Image
Synopsis : Amy Bruni and Adam Berry visit a New York home that once belonged to the state's first executioner, Edwin R. Davis because the home's current owner thinks there is a demonic spirit trying to kill him. My Thoughts: 1. For all the talk about the dangers of amateur investigations, Amy and Adam sure made a bit amateur mistake of their own. They went into the house assuming the ghost they were trying to talk to was Edwin Davis rather than first doing their research to see who else might have lived in the home or going in with no assumptions at all. 2. The video of the homeowner, Jason, falling down those basement steps was inconclusive. To me at least, it looked like he stumbled. I saw nothing that convinced me he was pushed by an unseen entity. And, his claim he couldn't stumbling first could easily be explained by the fact he hit his head. 3. Also, as much as I tried to use my imagination watching Amy and Adam's video of those same steps, I just cou...

Thoughts From the Kindred Spirits Episode: The Legacy of Lizzie Borden

Image
*Just a quick note: I meant to write this Saturday but, as is often the case, life happens and I just didn't get an opportunity to do so until today. Synopsis: Amy Bruni and Adam Berry investigate the home of the infamous Lizzie Borden to help a tour guide who believes her grandparents are trying to communicate with her from beyond the grave and warn her about something. My Thoughts: 1. Even though I appreciate the fact they at least tried to give the investigation a new twist (looking for the tour guide's grandparents rather than trying to find Lizzie or her alleged victims), the whole Lizzie Borden thing has been overdone. And, in all honesty, any paranormal investigation done at a tourist attraction just seems like the investigators are just providing paid publicity. 2. What ever happened to paranormal investigators trying to prove the existence of ghosts by first making an effort to debunk? Back when the show Ghost Hunters was all the rage, high emfs and une...
