Movie Review: Journey to the Center of Time (1967)

Image
Synopsis: In danger of losing their funding because of a skeptical benefactor, a team of scientists work to prove they can use lasers to see into the past and, eventually, into the future. Instead, a time warp sends their entire lab 5,000 years into the future, when Earth has been destroyed by war and mankind is on the verge of wiping itself out. They attempt to return to their own time so they can try to warn people before it is too late but their journey encounters complications that send them too far into the past. The film also goes by the title Time Warp . Who's in it? The movie stars Scott Brady , Anthony Eisley , Gigi Perreau , Abraham Sofaer and Tracy Olsen. Review: I came across Journey to the Center of Time on Amazon Prime last night and, while I am always a bit skeptical of time travel movies, it sounded interesting enough to give it a try. I ended up watching it this morning and it ended up being what I expected. Not necessarily in a good way. The premise of the mov...

Movie Review: Time Lapse (2014)

Image
Synopsis: An apartment building manager and his two friends check up on an elderly scientist who is behind on his rent and discover a machine that has been taking photographs of their apartment and showing scenes that take place 24 hours into the future. After learning the scientist is now deceased, they decide to pretend he is still alive and use the machine to make money. Their plan works. However, the stress of having to pose exactly like the photos show (or risk the consequences of stopping their timeline) and various other obstacles quickly begin to take their toll. Who's in it? The movie stars Danielle Panabaker , Matt O’Leary, George Finn, Amin Joseph and Jason Spisak. Review: I came across Time Lapse a couple nights ago and even though I had seen it before, I couldn't remember it and decided to give it another watch. I have to admit it was better than I expected. The thing I found I liked best about this film was the overall mystery. At first, the premise seemed simp...

Movie Review: The Time Travelers (1964)

Image
Synopsis: A team of scientists are working on a device that will allow them to view through time. They underestimate the device's capabilities and instead of just viewing the future they are soon trapped in the year 2071 on an Earth that has been destroyed by nuclear war and where the few hundred remaining humans hide from mutants while building a spaceship so they can leave. Unable to travel with the future humans because of the lack of supplies, the scientists attempt to rebuild their time portal before the mutants break through the defenses. Who's in it? The movie stars Preston Foster , Philip Carey, Merry Anders , Joan Woodbury and John Hoyt. Review: I had noticed The Time Travelers on one of my movie channels but since I have seen very few time travel films that were good, I wasn't sure if it would be something I would enjoy. I finally decided to give it a try this morning and, while it didn't quite change my opinion of this sub-genre, it was a pleasant surpri...

He discovers a link between the bombing and a murdered woman, Claire Kuchever, and his detective skills earn him an invite to join a team using a new technology that lets them see 4 days and 6 hours into the past. At first, the use of the technology is about finding clues to help them find the killer. However, Collins soon realizes the technology might allow them to change the past and save lives. Who's in it? The movie stars Denzel Washington , Paula Patton , Val Kilmer ,  Jim Caviezel and Adam Goldberg. Review: My wife and I finished watching another movie last night and, when Deja Vu came on right after, decided to just leave it on. At first, the film seemed like it had an intriguing plot but after watching it, I came away feeling like it just wasn't as good as it could have been. As I told my wife, I think this would have worked better as a tel...

Movie Review: World Without End (1956)

Image
Synopsis: A 1957 spaceflight is thrown off course and its crew are rendered unconscious. When the spacecraft crash lands, the crewmembers discover they have managed to reach a fast enough velocity to break the time barrier, and they are on Earth 551 years in the future, where nuclear war has left the surface inhabited by mutants and the remaining humans are hiding underground. Who's in it? The movie stars Hugh Marlowe , Nancy Gates , Rod Taylor , Lisa Montell and Nelson Leigh . Review: After spending the weekend watching several movies I've seen a dozen times before, I scrolled through my movie library and picked out one that has been there for some time, World Without End . It was my first time seeing this science fiction classic and, for the most part, I thought it was a good choice. To be honest, I was expecting the film to be a bit more action filled. Instead, there was quite a bit of action to start, as the astronaut crew discovered where they were and had to fend off ...

Movie Review: Meet Cute (2022)

Image
Synopsis: After experiencing the worst day of her life and wanting to kill herself, Sheila is given the opportunity to travel 24 hours into the past for a fresh start and ends up on an impromptu date with Gary. Wanting the moment to last forever, she continues to travel back in time, re-living the same day and date over and over again. However, when she grows bored with Gary, she decides to try to change him, creating problems. Who's in it? The movie stars Kaley Cuoco , Pete Davidson , Kevin Corrigan , Deborah S. Craig and Rock Kohli . Review: This movie has been on my list for some time now, but I didn't get an opportunity to watch it with my wife until last night. As it turns out, this movie was nothing like I was expecting it to be, and I mean that in both a good and bad way. First of all, everything about this movie, the main stars, the preview and the IMDB description screams "comedy." After seeing the film, I honestly couldn't see any way of classifying ...

Movie Review: A Biltmore Christmas (2023)

Image
Synopsis: The movie His Merry Wife has been a beloved holiday classic for 75 years and screenwriter Lucy Hargrove receives her first big break by being asked to write the remake. However, her "more realistic" ending doesn't impress the remake's producer and he sends Lucy to the historic Biltmore House, the hotel where the original was filmed, for inspiration. While on a tour of the building, Lucy turns over the antique hourglass that was featured in the movie and finds herself transported back in time to when His Merry Wife  was being made. When the hourglass is broken, her return to the present day is put in jeopardy. Who's in it? The movie stars Bethany Joy Lenz ,  Kristoffer Polaha ,  Colton Little , Annabelle Borke and Jonathan Frakes . Review: After touring the Christmas light display in a nearby park, I was in the mood for another Christmas movie last night. This Hallmark film seemed intriguing, at least from the previews, so we gave it a try. While it wa...

Movie Review: Totally Killer (2023)

Image
Synopsis: Teenager Jamie Hughes' mom, Pam, is overprotective to the point of almost smothering her daughter because of the "sweet 16" murders that happened 35 years earlier, leaving three of Pam's friends dead. When the killer re-emerges and murders Pam, Jamie is left devastated and traumatized. Then the killer goes after her at a school science fair and, as she attempts to escape by hiding in her friend's time machine project, Jamie is transported back to 1987, on the day of the first murder, and to save her mom, attempts to stop the killer before he starts. Who's in it? The movie stars Kiernan Shipka , Olivia Holt ,  Charlie Gillespie ,  Julie Bowen and Liana Liberato. Review: I came across this movie on Amazon Prime a few days ago and, while I had some doubts, was also somewhat intrigued by a slasher movie/murder mystery and convinced my wife to watch it with me last night. Overall, I have to say the movie more than exceeded my expectations. First of al...

Movie Review: Rip in Time (2022)

Image
Synopsis: While running an organic farm with her dad and son, Sarah finds a strange man in her barn who claims to be from the 18th century and the son of Rip Van Winkle. Believing Rip is a veteran suffering from PTSD, Sarah hires him as a ranch hand to give him a chance to figure things out. However, over time, she both begins to believe his story and develop feelings for him. Who's in it? The movie stars Torrey DeVitto , Niall Matter , Joshua Black , Eric Keenleyside and Ben Wilkinson. Review: My wife and I have been somewhat disappointed by the horror movies we've watched lately and, because of that, I decided to change things up a bit by watching this Hallmark film. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but it turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would be. I think the thing I liked the most about this film was the way the romance between Sarah (DeVitto) and Rip (Matters) didn't feel forced, as is the case with plenty of other films in thi...

Movie Review: Beyond the Time Barrier (1960)

Image

The movie stars Robert Clarke , Darlene Tompkins , Arianne Ulmer , Vladimir Sokoloff and Boyd 'Red' Morgan . Review: I came across this movie last night and wound up adding it to my movie library mostly because the "future" world it described was supposed to happen just two years from now. I had some doubts about the movie but wound up enjoying it a bit more than expected. I think the thing I liked best about this film was it w...
