One of the events I'm helping organize for the Beaver Dam Family Center. This is a popular food drive event and is open to the public.

The Beaver Dam Swan City Ice Skaters will be having their annual Swan Synchro Skate all day Saturday at the Beaver Dam Family Center. The event will feature 41 teams and more than 500 skaters from around the country and usually has some very entertaining synchronized skating programs. Admission is $10 for ages 5 and older. Active duty military are free with ID.

The Community Appreciation Open Skate is Tonight

The Beaver Dam Family Center will be having a free open skate for the public from 6-8 p.m. tonight in appreciation for the votes it received in the "Light Like the Pros" contest earlier this year, allowing it to win $50,000 in brand-new LED lighting. Just thought I'd share.

Swan City Ice Skaters Have Opened Registration for Their Summer Class Session

Taking a moment to perform my part-time "job" as a Beaver Dam Swan City Ice Skaters board member and announce registration has opened for new skaters who are interested in taking part in the summer class session (June 25-August 27). Any kid 3 years of age or older and living within driving distance of Beaver Dam, WI can sign up for the 30-minute-per-week class. Cost is just $60, which is pretty reasonable when you consider it is for the entire summer and includes an hour of practice ice each week. You can choose Monday evening or Wednesday evening for classes. You can register by visiting www.swancityiceskaters.org and clicking the registration link. Granted, I'm a little biased. But, if you have kids who are looking for something to do this summer, it's something I do recommend. Here are some of the reasons: 1. The classes are taught by professional coaches. Unlike many other activities that rely on volunteers (who may or may not be qualified), SCIS hires q...

It's Official, the Beaver Dam Family Center Won!

I actually found out about this on Friday but I (along with every other parent) was asked to keep quiet about it until today, when the Beaver Dam Family Center was announced as the winner of $50,000 in new LED lighting. Below are some photos from today's announcement ceremony, which was attended by city officials, local media, dozens of parents, figure skaters and hockey players and members of the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL), including their president Jon Greenberg. Thank you to everyone who voted and helped our volunteer-run rink get this much-needed upgrade.

Final Day of Round 2 Voting

The Beaver Dam Family Center is very close to winning $50,000 in brand new LED lighting. They were in first place as of yesterday with round 2 of voting ending today. Assuming they hold on and make the final four, votes will reset next week and the final round will run March 5-March 18. If you'd like to support the volunteer-run rink, please cast your vote here: http://www.lightlikethepros.com/vote/entries/172060059?type=vote

Our Local Ice Rink is Reportedly in First Place

The vote tallies aren't shown any more so there's no way to confirm this 100 percent. But, our board members were apparently told the Beaver Dam Family Center is sitting in first place with a little over a week left in round 2 voting. If they make it to the final round of voting, they will have a real chance to earn $50,000 in new lighting, something that would be a huge boon for the volunteer-run rink. If you're interested in helping them out by casting your vote, the link is here: http://www.lightlikethepros.com/vote/entries/172060059?type=vote
