The smoke coming into Wisconsin from Canada has been bad, but I promised my daughter I'd take her to the beach as part of her birthday, so I drove the family to North Beach in Port Washington during a short window when the air was reasonably breathable. While there, my wife and I ended up having an impromptu photoshoot while the birthday girl played in Lake Michigan and her sister sat on a blanket drawing in her sketchbook. This proved to be a challenge because there was enough of a haze to make the lighting unpredictable and a bit like shooting photos through the glass of a window (and my editing skills are far from expert level). However, I still managed to get a few that even she liked. My family and I had our first beach vacation in years this past week, choosing to go to Long Beach, Mississippi and spending some time on the Gulf Coast. It was hot and humid, and we had to contend with quite a few jellyfish but overall. Plus, the community is still showing the effects of Hurricane Katrina with plenty of vacant lots and piers that are damaged to the point they can't be used. However, it was still a good time overall.  Here are some of the nature photos I took while I was there. Apologies in advance, I don't do a lot of beach photography and my camera doesn't have a sun filter option and the lens kept fogging over so some of these don't have quite the quality I hoped for.
