Movie Review: Foxhole (2021)

Image
Synopsis: Three sets of soldiers in three different wars take shelter from the enemy in a foxhole only to be given a moral dilemma, whether it's choosing between maintaining their post or taking a wounded comrade to a field hospital or whether to take an enemy soldier prisoner or kill them. Who's in it? The movie stars James Le Gros , Alex Breaux , Alex Hurt , Andi Matichak and Cody Kostro. Review: I came across Foxhole on one of my movie channels several weeks ago and added it to my library because it sounded somewhat unique. I mean, it was a war film, but it was a war film telling three different stories set in three different wars (American Civil War, World War I and the Iraq War). I finally got around to watching it this morning and was pleased with that decision. While the concept for each story was the same, the various dilemmas each group of soldiers faced were tailored to the specific situation. The Union soldiers from the Civil War segment, for example, had to dec...

Movie Review: Halloween Ends (2022)

Image
Synopsis: Four years after the town of Haddonfield's efforts to stop Michael Myers resulted in both failure and her daughter's death, Laurie Stroud has moved to a new home, which she shares with her granddaughter, Allyson, and is writing a book about the incident and how Michael's evil has infected the town. Michael isn't quite done, however, and with the help of Allyson's boyfriend, Corey, a man whose life was ruined by an accidental death, begins a new killing spree. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , Andi Matichak , James Jude Courtney , Rohan Campbell and Will Patton . Review: I was disappointed by Halloween Kills and, because of that, had some serious doubts about this third installment to the franchise reboot. However, since we were able to get it through Peacock TV, my wife and I ended up watching it on Friday. It took me the weekend to analyze how I felt about this film, and I finally came to a conclusion - it's better than I expect...

Movie Review: Halloween Kills (2021)

Image
Synopsis: After escaping the fiery trap set by Laurie Strode, Michael Myers continues his killing spree, leaving a trail of bodies behind him. Fed up, the residents of Haddonfield decide to go on the offensive, track him down, and ensure evil dies once and for all. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , Judy Greer , Andi Matichak , Anthony Michael Hall , James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle . Review : Even though I enjoyed the 2018 reboot of the Halloween franchise more than expected, I had some serious doubts about yet another sequel and didn't bother to watch it right away. However, I found I was able to pick up this movie for free from our library and, since it wasn't costing me anything, decided to give it a try. As it turns out, my first instincts about this movie were right. It wasn't the worst movie from the franchise, but it also wasn't anything special. One of the biggest problems with this franchise, and why it has needed to do multiple reboots...

Movie Review: Assimilate (2019)

Image
Synopsis: A pair of high school seniors making a web documentary about their sleepy (boring) Missouri small town discover the town's residents are being killed and replaced by perfect copies. Who's in it? The movie stars Joel Courtney , Calum Worthy , Andi Matichak , Katherine McNamara and Cam Gigandet . Review: Even though my wife had (virtual) kickboxing yesterday evening, we had a little bit of time before bed and wound up picking out this movie on Netflix. This was pretty much just a random pick because the description left a lot to the imagination. And, I'm not going to say it was a mistake because we didn't exactly hate this film. But, it was pretty easy to understand why it was the first time either of us had ever heard of it. Let's put it this way. If you have seen Invasion of the Body Snatchers (either version), you have already seen this movie. In fact, with the exception of it being modernized to include things like the internet, cell phones ...

Movie Review: Halloween (2018)

Synopsis: On the 40th anniversary of his murderous rampage in Haddonfield, Illinois, a docile Michael Myers is set to be transferred from the sanitarium that has been his home for four decades. Meanwhile, his sister, Laurie Strode, is living in an isolated fortress, estranged from her daughter because of her obsession with the killer. When Michael escapes during his transfer, their paths once-again cross. But, this time, it's Laurie hunting him. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , James Jude Courtney , Judy Greer , Andi Matichak and Will Patton . Review: To tell you the truth, when this movie came out last year, I really wasn't all that interested in seeing it. The previews looked decent. But, I figured it would end up being a sub-par attempt at cashing in on an established franchise. I recently changed my mind and added it to my Netflix DVD queue. My wife and I received it yesterday and watched it last night. After doing so, I am willing to admit th...
