Synopsis: Professor Clifford Groves has a controversial opinion about neanderthals, while his colleagues believe they lacked intelligence, he argues they were smarter than modern man. Determined to prove his theory, he injects himself with a serum that de-evolves him to neanderthal form. Meanwhile, local authorities are hunting for answers relating to the sabretooth tiger Groves created from a cat using the same serum. Who's in it? The movie stars Robert Shayne , Joyce Terry, Richard Crane , Doris Merrick and Robert Long. Review: I had another movie in mind this morning but came across The Neanderthal Man first and decided to give that one a try instead. It turned out to be what I would expect from a 1950s monster movie but was also slightly better than I thought it would be. I'll start out by giving the film some credit, unlike many "mad scientist" movies, the mad scientist in this one, Groves (Shayne) at least had a reason for conducting his experiment. I'm ...

Movie Review: Backlash (1947)

Synopsis: Prominent defense attorney John Morland is found dead in a crashed car, but police quickly determine it wasn't an accident and, instead, Morland had been murdered beforehand. The investigation leads to multiple suspects - Morland's wife, Catherine, his legal partner, James O'Neill, a wanted fugitive by the name of Red Bailey and even the district attorney, Richard Conroy. Who's in it? The movie stars Jean Rogers , Richard Travis , John Eldredge , Douglas Fowley and Robert Shayne . Review: I didn't have an opportunity to pre-select a movie for this morning because of getting home late last night (my daughter had another community theater performance). As a result, I picked Backlash solely because it was alphabetically one of the first movies saved in my library. As it turns out, it was a good choice. This movie is a solid murder mystery. In addition to the mystery surrounding Morland's (Eldredge) decision to drive to San Francisco, there were a ton...

Movie Review: Indestructible Man (1956)

Synopsis: A scientist performs an experiment on the recently executed criminal Charles "The Butcher" Benton and unintentionally brings him back to life and makes him seemingly indestructible. The resurrected Benton immediately begins stalking the three accomplices he believes betrayed him, leaving a wake of dead bodies in his path. Who's in it? The movie stars Lon Chaney Jr. , Max Showalter , Marian Carr , Ross Elliott and Stuart Randall. Review: A spring blizzard ruined any plans I had today and, while waiting for there to be enough snow on the ground to justify using my snow blower, I looked for something to watch. I've had this film on my list for a while now and decided to finally give it a try. The movie turned out not to be quite what I was expecting, it was much more of a crime drama than a classic horror film, but I still enjoyed it. I think the overall plot ended up being a lot better than I thought it would be. I'm still unclear about what the scient...
