Movie Review: Doctor Who: The Movie (1996)

Image
Synopsis:  Synopsis: A TARDIS malfunction forces an emergency landing in San Francisco on December 30, 1999. While there, a newly regenerated Doctor must prevent his nemesis, the Master, from stealing his new body. Who's in it? The movie stars Paul McGann, Eric Roberts , Daphne Ashbrook, Will Sasso and Yee Jee Tso. Review: With Doctor Who in hiatus and with an uncertain future, I've been starting to get a bit of an itch for the series. As a result, I decided to take the time to rewatch Doctor Who: The Movie , a film I remember enjoying more than I was supposed to but also didn't remember a whole lot much else about. After re-watching it, I still think it is a better film than some Whovians give it credit for. McGann only plays the Doctor once, in this movie, so his sample size is limited. However, I didn't hate his performance. Was it as memorable as David Tenant or Tom Baker? No. At the same time though, I thought he carried himself well enough to provide the charac...

Synopsis: A mysterious and powerful alien force destroys everything in its path on the way to Earth, forcing a newly refitted starship  Enterprise  into duty before it is completely ready. Admiral James T. Kirk is given command, much to the dissatisfaction of the ship's current captain Willard Decker, causing the two to butt heads as a mix of the original Enterprise crew and new faces speed toward danger. Who's in it? The movie stars William Shatner , Leonard Nimoy , DeForest Kelley , Stephen Collins and George Takei . Review: While I don't consider myself a Trekkie, I do enjoy at least some aspects of the Star Trek universe, including most of the movies. That's why, when I saw it was showing on one of my movie channels, I took the time to re-watch Star Trek: The Motion Picture . As has been the case with past viewings, my opinion of the film remains mixed. I'll start out by saying there are a lot of things this movie does right. For one, I like how the movie re...

Movie Review: Car 54, Where Are You? (1994)

Image
Synopsis: Officer Gunther Toody takes a relaxed approach to police work, including looking the other way when it is a minor crime. When his long-time partner, Officer Leo Schnauzer, retires, he is assigned Francis Muldoon, a by-the-books police officer. Their opposite approaches both threaten their partnership and threaten to derail the department's attempt at protecting a key witness against a local crime lord. Who's in it? The movie stars David Johansen, John C. McGinley, Fran Drescher , Daniel Baldwin Nipsey Russell and Rosie O'Donnell. Review: Up until scrolling through one of my movie channels a couple days ago, I didn't even realize there was a movie version of Car 54, Where Are You?  I watched quite a few episodes of that series (in re-runs) when I was younger and, while I had some doubts, I figured I'd give it a try this morning.  I've seen quite a few terrible comedies in my lifetime. I think this may have the first one to be bad enough to give me a...

Movie Review: The Addams Family (1991)

Image
Synopsis: Gomez Addams and his family are eccentric but wealthy and their lawyer, Tully Alford, in debt to a loan shark, tries to take advantage of this only to have Gomez turn him down on his investment idea. Angry and needing the money, Alford partners with Abigail Craven and her adopted son, Gordon, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Gomez's long-lost older brother, Fester. Their goal is to con the Addams family into believing Gordon is Gomez so they can gain access to a vault containing millions in gold. Who's in it? The movie stars Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd , Christina Ricci and Dan Hendaya. Review: My wife and youngest daughter are on a mini vacation with friends and, after introducing my oldest daughter to the movie Clue earlier in the evening, I looked for a movie to watch while waiting to go to bed. It had been years since I last watched The Addams Family , so I gave it a re-watch. I did not regret the choice. There have been more recent films...
