Movie Review: Jason X (2001)

Image
Synopsis: After killing more than 200 people, Jason Voorhees is finally captured by the government and is being held in a secret research facility. He manages to escape custody and kills everyone inside the facility except for a government scientist who lures him into a cryogenic chamber before freezing him and herself. Nearly 450 years later, their frozen bodies are discovered by a team of archaeologists exploring now-abandoned Earth and are brought on board the spaceship. Soon after, Jason once again rises from the dead and goes on a killing spree. Who's in it?  The movie stars Kane Hodder , Lexa Doig, David Cronenberg, Markus Parilo and Lisa Ryder. Review: Full honesty here - while I recognize the Friday the 13th movies for their cultural significance, I am not as big of a Jason Voorhees fan as you might think. Frankly, I have always considered him to be a bit overrated (and even a little wimpy) when compared to other horror movie bad guys.  Jason X , however, is one of ...

Movie Review: 13 Fanboy (2021)

Image
Synopsis: When Friday the 13th actress Deborah Voorhees is murdered, her granddaughter, Kelsie, is left traumatized. Years later, other stars from the franchise are murdered, possibly by the same killer, Kelsie realizes she and her grandmother's best friend, Dee Wallace, are the primary targets. Who's in it? The movie stars Hayley Greenbauer , Dee Wallace , Kane Hodder , Judie Aronson and Corey Feldman . Review: I came across this film on Parmount Plus a while ago and added it to my list because it looked somewhat interesting. My wife and I finally watched it tonight and it proved to be a big disappointment. This is one of those films that has an intriguing premise but poor execution. There is a lot happening in the film and quite a few stars and those things, along with some questionable editing, make it difficult to keep up with who is who. I mean, I know they are all actors and actresses that starred in the horror movie franchise, but other than Hodder and Feldman, I ho...

Movie Review: Death House (2017)

Image
Synopsis: Two FBI agents are given a tour of a top-secret federal prison where scientists use virtual environments and homeless people to study criminals as they commit their violent acts. When outside sabotage causes the power to go out, the prisoners break loose from their confinement. Who's in it? The movie stars Kane Hodder , Cortney Palm , Cody Longo , Dee Wallace , Bill Moseley , Michael Berryman , Tony Todd and Gunnar Hansen . Review: It's been a while since my wife and I have had a chance to watch a horror movie together. My original plan was to watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre again. However, I came across this film while looking for that one and, thinking it sounded somewhat different, decided to give it a try. My first impression of this film when we started watching it was it was a movie with a lot of potential. Not only did the plot sound interesting (though there were parts of it that reminded me of Resident Evil ) it had a who's who of horror movie...

Movie Review: Charlie's Farm (2014)

Synopsis: Four friends decide to go camping in the Australian wilderness and end up exploring a rural farm that was the scene of a series of brutal murders 30 years earlier. There is just one problem. Charlie, the deformed son of the two murderers who were killed by the local authorities, still lives on the property. Movie Review: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)

Image
Review: When the graduating senior class of Lakeview High School celebrates by taking a cruise ship to New York City, a newly revived Jason Voorhees tags along as a stowaway and, before too long, is slaughtering the students and the ship's crew. Who's in it? The movie stars Kane Hodder , Jensen Daggett , Barbara Bingham , Peter Mark Richman and Warren Munson . Review: After recording this film off of one of our movie channels earlier this month, my wife and I finally got around to watching it this week. I did this with some reluctance because, so far, I have been pretty unimpressed with the majority of the movies from this franchise. But, I figured I would give it one more chance. As it turns out, I was right to be reluctant. Let me start out by saying the title of this movie is kind of misleading. Yes, Jason (Hodder) does, eventually, visit Manhattan. However, the majority of the the film takes place on the cruise ship to Manhattan. Then, when he finally gets ther...

Movie Review: Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)

Image
Synopsis : Years after causing her abusive and alcoholic father's death, a telekinetic teenager returns to Crystal Lake with her mom and her psychiatrist, Dr. Crews, who is secretly trying to exploit her gift. When her powers grow stronger, she accidentally releases Jason Voorhees (still chained to the bottom of the lake) and he immediately starts another killing spree. Who's in it? The movie stars Lar Park-Lincoln , Terry Kiser , Kane Hodder , Susan Blu and Kevin Spirtas. Review : Even though I recorded this film when I came across it on one of our movie channels a few days ago, I wasn't really sure if I was going to end up watching it. However, the 6th installment of this movie franchise wasn't too terrible (and was an improvement over the two that preceded it). So, as a result of that, I gave this installment a try too. Unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. I think the biggest problem with this film is the same one I see with a lot of sequel...
