Movie Review: The Last Duel (2021)

Image
Synopsis: In 13th Century France, squires Jean de Carrouges and Jacques le Gris serve the same lord, Count Pierre d'Alençon but while Jean shows that loyalty to Pierre and the king by risking his life in battle, Jacques is clearly the count's favorite, spending his time at court and being gifted land and a title that Jean feels should be his. Things come to a head when Jean's wife, Marguerite, accuses Jacques of raping her. Unable to get justice from Pierre, Jean convinces the king to let him fight Jacques in a duel to the death. If Jacques loses, he will be posthumously found guilty. If Jean dies, Marguerite will be burned at the stake for perjury. Who's in it? The movie stars Matt Damon , Adam Driver , Jodie Comer , Ben Affleck and Harriet Walter. Review: I wound up re-watching the film Patton in between mowing the lawn yesterday and, when that movie was over, The Last Duel came on. This was a movie I had considered watching before but mostly because of the 2 1/2...

Synopsis: Mills, a pilot from the planet Somaris, agrees to a 2-year space expedition to fund treatments for his daughter, Nevine, who is suffering from a deadly illness. The ship is struck by an asteroid and crash lands on prehistoric Earth, killing all on board except for Mills and the 9-year-old Koa. Their only hope is the escape shuttle that landed on a mountain top 15 kilometers away, a journey that requires them to face both dinosaurs and other potential dangers, before an asteroid much larger than the one that brought the ship down crashes into the planet. Who's in it? The movie stars Adam Driver ,  Ariana Greenblatt ,  Chloe Coleman and  Nika King . Review: I briefly considered seeing this movie when it was at our local theater but could only afford to see one film and chose Scream VI instead. Even though it didn't do well as a theatrical release, I remained intrigued and was finally able to watch it on Netflix last night. Overall, I thought it was an enterta...

Movie Review: The Dead Don't Die (2019)

Image
Synopsis:  Something isn't quite right in the small town of Centerville. The sun is setting much later than it normally does, domestic pets and livestock are acting strangely and, most importantly, the dead are rising from their graves. Who's in it? The movie stars Bill Murray , Adam Driver , Selena Gomez , Tom Waits and Steve Buscemi. Review:  I don't remember putting this particular movie in my Netflix DVD queue and, as a result, was a bit surprised to see it arrive a few weeks ago. Since it was a longer film, it took my wife and I some time to watch it. We finally did that last night and it turned out to be better than expected. I think the thing I liked best about this movie was the various residents in Centerville. This includes a police officer (Driver) who seems to realize they are in a movie, a funeral home director ( Maya Delmont ) who is both strange and a sword expert, a racist farmer (Buscemi) and a hermit (Waits) who serves as a narrator. It was fun watching t...
