Synopsis: Rookie New York police officer Megan Turner kills an armed robber and is suspended when the robber's gun can't be found. Soon after, she accepts an offer from wealthy commodities trader Eugene Hunt to share a cab and begins dating him only to learn he is a serial killer. With no evidence to corroborate Eugene's confession and put him behind bars, even after he kills her best friend, Megan finds herself stalked by Eugene and must find a way to stop him before he harms anyone else close to her. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , Ron Silver, Clancy Brown, Louise Fletcher and Richard Jenkins. Review: My youngest daughter had to work, my wife was at her sewing studio, and my oldest daughter was doing her own thing, so I found myself with time to watch a movie yesterday evening. After looking at several options, I settled on the film Blue Steel (not to be mistaken for the John Wayne movie by the same name) just because it sounded interesting and had...

Movie Review: Terror Train (1980)

Image
Synopsis: Three years after reluctantly assisting in a fraternity prank that sent a pledge to a mental hospital, a graduating Alana Maxwell joins her classmates at a New Years Eve costume party held on a train. What she doesn't know is one of the guests has murderous intentions. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , Ben Johnson, David Copperfield, Hart Bochner and Derek McKinnon. Review: My wife has an almost child-like obsession with trains, and we both love horror films so, when I came across Terror Train last night, I decided to add it to the top of my list and watch it right away. Unfortunately, while this movie seemed to have quite a bit of potential, it did fall a bit short in my opinion. The overall premise isn't a bad one. The train provided a great setting, both because it was a confined space and because it was moving, making it much more difficult for the intended victims to escape. The costume party was a nice added touch as well because it both mad...

With the help of a robot, Claptrap, that has mysteriously been programmed to help her, Lilith is able to locate the teen. Who's in it? the movie stars Cate Blanchett , Jamie Lee Curtis , Kevin Hart , Ariana Greenblatt and Jack Black. Review: I had planned on watching the film Glass last night. However, I discovered none of the 10 movie apps/channels I subscribe to have the film unless I pay extra. So, since I now need to wait until I have time to go to the library and get a copy on DVD for free, I ended up picking Borderlands inste...

Movie Review: Halloween Ends (2022)

Image
Synopsis: Four years after the town of Haddonfield's efforts to stop Michael Myers resulted in both failure and her daughter's death, Laurie Stroud has moved to a new home, which she shares with her granddaughter, Allyson, and is writing a book about the incident and how Michael's evil has infected the town. Michael isn't quite done, however, and with the help of Allyson's boyfriend, Corey, a man whose life was ruined by an accidental death, begins a new killing spree. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , Andi Matichak , James Jude Courtney , Rohan Campbell and Will Patton . Review: I was disappointed by Halloween Kills and, because of that, had some serious doubts about this third installment to the franchise reboot. However, since we were able to get it through Peacock TV, my wife and I ended up watching it on Friday. It took me the weekend to analyze how I felt about this film, and I finally came to a conclusion - it's better than I expect...

Movie Review: Halloween Kills (2021)

Image
Synopsis: After escaping the fiery trap set by Laurie Strode, Michael Myers continues his killing spree, leaving a trail of bodies behind him. Fed up, the residents of Haddonfield decide to go on the offensive, track him down, and ensure evil dies once and for all. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , Judy Greer , Andi Matichak , Anthony Michael Hall , James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle . Review : Even though I enjoyed the 2018 reboot of the Halloween franchise more than expected, I had some serious doubts about yet another sequel and didn't bother to watch it right away. However, I found I was able to pick up this movie for free from our library and, since it wasn't costing me anything, decided to give it a try. As it turns out, my first instincts about this movie were right. It wasn't the worst movie from the franchise, but it also wasn't anything special. One of the biggest problems with this franchise, and why it has needed to do multiple reboots...

Movie Review: Knives Out (2019)

Image
Synopsis:  When renown mystery writer Harlan Thrombey is found dead following his 85th birthday party, it is initially ruled a suicide. However, the investigation is re-opened when a well-known private investigator, Benoit Blanc, is anonymously hired to consult on the case. However, things take an even more dramatic turn when the mystery writer's nurse, Marta Cabrera, is named Thrombey's sole heir. Who's in it? The movie stars Ana de Armas , Daniel Craig , Chris Evans , Jamie Lee Curtis , Don Johnson and Christopher Plummer . Review:  I received this movie on DVD from Netflix yesterday and, since there wasn't anything good on TV, decided to watch it with my wife yesterday evening. Normally, my wife and I usually wind up sharing the same view of the movies we watch, we either both like them or we both hate them. However, this happened to be one of those rare films where we disagreed. ...

Movie Review: Halloween (2018)

Image
Synopsis: On the 40th anniversary of his murderous rampage in Haddonfield, Illinois, a docile Michael Myers is set to be transferred from the sanitarium that has been his home for four decades. Meanwhile, his sister, Laurie Strode, is living in an isolated fortress, estranged from her daughter because of her obsession with the killer. When Michael escapes during his transfer, their paths once-again cross. But, this time, it's Laurie hunting him. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , James Jude Courtney , Judy Greer , Andi Matichak and Will Patton . Review: To tell you the truth, when this movie came out last year, I really wasn't all that interested in seeing it. The previews looked decent. But, I figured it would end up being a sub-par attempt at cashing in on an established franchise. I recently changed my mind and added it to my Netflix DVD queue. My wife and I received it yesterday and watched it last night. After doing so, I am willing to admit th...

One Scene From Christmas With the Kranks Keeps Replaying in My Head

Image
My wife and I watched this movie (as we do every year) about a week ago and, as always, I enjoyed watching it. However, here it is a week later and one scene, well, actually, a line, keeps replaying in my head because it's stumping me a bit. The scene is the one where Jamie Lee Curtis returns from the store with smoked trout instead of ham: How in the world is smoked trout a better choice than frozen pizza, as she suggests? Not only does that sound like it would be something many people wouldn't enjoy, she didn't even buy enough to feed a group of people. I would think frozen pizza would have been perfectly acceptable, Christmas party or not. Now maybe if she would have said something like "it was better than liver tartar," I probably wouldn't be so bothered by that line today.

Movie Review: Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)

Image
Synopsis: Twenty years after her brother, Michael Myers, stalked her and killed her friends, Laurie Strode has faked her death, changed her name and is working as a headmistress at an exclusive private boarding school in California. Even though she has not seen her brother in 20 years and he is believed to be dead, she still continues to live in fear, especially on Halloween night. This year, however, her fears are justified when he returns to stalk both her and her 17-year-old son. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , Chris Durand , Josh Hartnett , Michelle Williams and LL Cool J . Review: I lost interested in the Halloween movies around the 5th installment and, as a result of that, never got around to watching this film in the 20 years it has been released. However, my wife and I came across it last night and, since we actually had some time before bed, decided to finally watch it. As it turns out, I thought it was one of the better films from the franchise....

Movie Review: Halloween II (1981)

Image
Synopsis : Despite being shot 6 times by Dr. Loomis and falling from a balcony, Michael Myers escapes and starts a new killing spree while hunting down hospitalized survivor, Laurie Strode. Who's in it? The movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis , Donald Pleasence , Dick Warlock , Pamela Susan Shoop and Tawny Moyer . Review: My wife and I had planned on using last night to get caught up on the shows we recorded during the week. However, I came across this film on one of our movie channels and we ended up watching it instead. While it's considered a classic, I'm actually not a huge fan of the original Halloween film, mostly because I thought it took too long to get going. But, after seeing this film for the first time in a while, I have to admit I enjoyed it much more than I was expecting. I think the thing I like most about this film is the way Myers (Warlock) doesn't waste much time going after Laurie (Curtis). Unlike the first movie, which was him mostly standing a...
