Movie Review: Men (2022)

Synopsis: After having a fight with her husband and seeing him kill himself right after, Harper takes a solo vacation to a small countryside village to cope with her grief. Not long after arriving, a strange, naked man follows her home from a walk in the woods and attempts to break in, prompting her to call the police. She then learns the other men in the village are also acting strangely toward her.

Who's in it? The movie stars Jessie Buckley, Rory Kinnear, Gayle Rankin, Danny Stafford and Paapa Essiedu.

Review: My youngest daughter and I looked for a movie to watch with my wife when she got home from her sewing studio yesterday and, since she likes horror films, picked one from that category. The film Men sounded interesting, so we picked that one. Two hours later, my opinion of the film was clear.

"What the hell did I just watch?"

Then, after some sleep and reflection, I reassessed that opinion.

"What the hell did I watch last night?"

The movie, frankly, didn't even start out that great for me. It is what I would describe as an artsy film, with some admittedly beautiful camera work. It is, however, also a very dull film as a result, with Harper (Buckley) having plenty of time to do things like taking a long walk and playing an echo game inside an old tunnel before anything sinister happens.

Once it does happen, then things just sort of go downhill from there.

If you go online, you can find an explanation as to why just about every character looks like her landlord, Geoffrey (Kinnear) and what the movie was all about. However, I'm more of an old-school guy who believes a movie should be self-explanatory and not require you to go the extra mile to figure out what happened and that's where this film, in addition to the dullness, failed for me.

This is especially true of the ending, which did start out OK by building a bit of mystery and suspense but then just got both disturbing and weird. As I said before - What the hell did I watch?

Final Opinion: There were elements of the film that were mysterious and interesting. However, there's just not enough effort to make any of it make sense without outside help and even then, there's still a whole lot about the film that leaves me scratching my head.

Kwik Trip Kitchen Cravings Tailgater Pizza

  When my wife and I decided on pizza for dinner last night, I stopped at Kwik Trip with the intention of just buying a cheap, frozen, cheese pizza for our daughters since we already had another pizza in our freezer. However, as I was walking up to the checkout counter, this particular pizza caught my eye and, even though I wasn't crazy about spending $8.99 when I already had another option at home, I was intrigued enough to make the purchase anyway. We ended up making the pizza in the oven when I got home. After trying it, I have to say it is one of my favorites. One of the things, in particular, that really stood out for me when it came to this pizza was the toppings. The combination of sausage and cheese curds was both unique and delicious, especially since the curds were fresh enough to still squeak when we were eating them. Jen's Family Table Sloppy Joe Meat

  I had been eying this product at Kwik Trip for a few weeks now and, needing something for dinner last night, decided to finally purchase it (though, admittedly, my first plan was to get their taco meat, which ended up being sold out). After trying it, my opinion wound up being mixed. There were a couple things I really liked about this product. One of the main ones was the price. A 1-pound package cost $3.49. A pound of hamburger currently costs about $5, and that's only if I happen to find it on sale. When you add in the cost of a can of sloppy Joe sauce , this product ends up costing half as much as the way we usually make sloppy Joes. I also found I liked the convenience. Since the meat is already cooked, all I had to do was warm it up in the microwave for a couple minutes rather than frying the burger, draining the grease, and adding the can of sauce. I didn't have anything planned this Labor Day except to mow my lawn. The rain we got mid-week resulted in the grass being tall/thick enough to burn through the batteries so, while waiting for them to recharge, I wound up using my camera to get some photos of the birds visiting the bird feeder in the front yard, including a yet-to-be-identified furry bird.
