A Cat Dad (A Poem)
Awoken early in the morning by the sound of pacing paws.
I would have liked to sleep in late
But if I don't get out of bed,
They'll only escalate.
Wearily serve their breakfast, only to have them stick their noses up and walk away.
There's no point in getting mad.
It's what I signed up for
When I became a cat dad.
There are so many jingle balls and toy mice on the floor,
They can only be cleaned up with a broom.
I spend a large portion of my money keeping the birdfeeders filled
Just so they have something to watch from the window in the living room.
Almost ran late for work this morning
Because one of them decided to take a nap
And, of course, their choice of bed
Happens to be my lap.
No plate of food is safe unattended
We need to be careful where we place something breakable, like a vase.
There is cat hair just about everywhere
But, let's face it, they are the ones who really run the place.
All I can do is be a good and loving parent
Even when they are being very, very bad.
It's all just part of the life
Of being a cat dad.
