Thoughts From the Green Bay Packers at the Los Angeles Rams (10/6/2024)

Here are some thoughts from the Green Bay Packers' 24-19 win over the Los Angeles Rams yesterday.

It was good seeing Jordan Love getting his first win this season. If the Packers would have lost this game, leaving him 0-3 on the year after Malik Willis went 2-0 in his absence, I'm not sure there wouldn't have been a quarterback controversy. I doubt the Packers would have benched him since they are paying him a lot of money, but I'm sure there would be plenty of "experts" suggesting it.

Love needs to be more careful with the ball though. He has five interceptions in the three games he's played in, including his first ever pick 6 in this one. Not all of them have been his fault but he's not playing at an MVP level, as people thought he would.

The drops were a bit frustrating. Not all of the dropped passes were easy catches but players like Dontayvion Wicks, who was targeted seven times but only caught two passes, need to step it up a bit. There's no reason for a quarterback of Love's caliber to be completing just 56 percent of his passes. And I'm not sure what Romeo Doubs issue was this week, but I do hope he gets on the same page with Matt LaFleur and comes back.

Xavier McKinney is proving to be worth every penny. I'm always a little skeptical of free agents but this was a great signing. Five interceptions in five games and both an interception and fumble recovery in this one. He's a game changer and is only 26 years old.

The defense still seems to be struggling a bit against the run. The Rams' running backs averaged 4.8 yards per carry. The players were in the right place at the right time but were missing tackles quite a bit. It's something that needs to be worked on.

Brayden Narveson didn't miss. He only had one field goal attempt, but he hit it from 46 yards out and made all three of his extra point attempts. It's too small of a sample to know if he's corrected his issues this season but with few replacement options on the market, all the team can do is keep giving him tries and hope he becomes consistent.
