Movie Review: D-Railed (2018)
Synopsis: After a robbery attempt goes horribly wrong, a murder mystery train goes off the rails and its passengers crash into a river. While they survived the crash, they find they are being hunted by a creature living under the murky water. The creature continues to stalk them even after they make it to shore.
Who's in it? The movie stars Lance Henriksen, Dwayne Standridge, Giovannie Espiritu, Catherine Healy and Amanda Mayfield.
The movie could be summarized in two sentences. The movie is way too dark. The film is way too predictable.
I'm sure there were some scary scenes in this movie but because a good chunk of it takes place in the water/at night, it was hard to really see what was going on. I thought it was just our television at first but I re-watched part of this on my computer and had the same issue. I don't know why movies choose to film scenes like that other than to hide obvious flaws.
The predictability part of it was worse, however. I correclty called the ending before anyone even boarded the train. And I did that despite the fact the ending really doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you factor in the earlier scenes involving people purposely "dressing in costume" for a show and how it does very little to explain the monster, which honestly just seemed to be thrown in with no real purpose other than to make it a horror film.
The ironic part of it was the murder mystery train was the most interesting part of the movie. I honestly believe this would have been worth watching had that been the focus of the film, with one of the actors being killed for real and everyone being trapped onboard with a killer. I was intrigued then horribly disappointed when they derailed the train instead.
Final Opinion: Maybe I would have found a way to enjoy this movie more if it wasn't a plot that has been done way too many times before or it had at least been executed in a way that made it seem unique. As it stands, there really isn't anything that sets this movie apart from others just like it and plenty of things that make it not all that enjoyable, especially since there was so much potential if the writers had gone a different direction.
My Grade: F
