Movie Review: Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Image
Synopsis: In 1799, New York City constable Ichabod Crane is sent to the farming village of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of gruesome murders involving decapitation. He quickly learns the murders are being committed by the vengeful spirit of a Hessian soldier but suspects the headless horseman is being controlled by someone in the village. Who's in it? The movie stars Johnny Depp , Christina Ricci , Miranda Richardson, Casper Van Dien , Christopher Lee , Jeffrey Jones  and Christopher Walken. Review: My wife wasn't feeling 100 percent last night and, knowing she would probably go to bed anyway, I ended up putting Sleepy Hollow on. I've seen it at least a half dozen times now, so most of the surprises weren't really surprises any more. It still remains one of my favorite movies. I think one of the biggest reasons I like this movie as much as I do is the Ichabod Crane character is easily one of Johnny Depp's best roles. I love how he portrayed him ...

Does God Feel This Way Too (A Poem)

I work hard to be a provider for them, And, sometimes, just doing that is enough of a chore. They may not have everything they want, But, they have everything they need, and, perhaps, a little more. Yet there's always something else they want. What they have never seems to be enough. It doesn't even matter That they are already running out of room for their stuff. Image courtesy of Pixabay They also always seem to be fighting, Even though there's really no reason why they shouldn't be getting along. Sometimes we can't even prevent it By sending them to different parts of our home. There's days when they even seem to enjoy it, Starting in with the first morning's light And not letting up Until they go to bed at night. I Am Liking This TV Series

Image
My wife and I came across the show Slasher on Netflix a couple weeks ago and, mostly because we were looking for something new to watch, decided to check it out. We are now almost through season one of the series and I have to say I'm impressed. I, of course, love the old-fashioned slasher movies. This show manages to give that same vibe. Plus, the first season had an excellent mystery. Way too many times, it's a little too easy to figure out who the killer is. While watching this show, we had our theories. But, because there are so many people who would make an excellent suspect, it was difficult to point out the killer without any difficulty. It's definitely worth checking out.

Movie Review: Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009)

Image
Synopsis: Journalist Rebecca Bloomwood dreams of writing for the fashion magazine Alette and, as part of a master plan to land that dream job, applies for and accidentally lands a job at its sister publication, Successful Savings . Her financial advice column is a big hit. There's just one problem, she's secretly a compulsive shopper, has more than $16,000 in credit card debt and is being hunted down by bill collectors. Who's in it? The movie stars Isla Fisher , Hugh Dancy , Krysten Ritter, Joan Cusack , John Goodman and Robert Stanton . Review: I had a pretty full day on Saturday, spending most of the day at my youngest daughter's dance recital (she had two shows) before volunteering for a couple hours at the ice rink's open skate. As a result of this, even though I did manage to get a few chores done on Sunday, I was pretty drained and, between that and the weather, wound up spending a good chunk of the day watching movies with my wife. This is a f...

Morning Walk Photos 5/21/2018

It was only supposed to be cloudy today (at least according to the weather report I saw). However, I (correctly) suspected we would get rain so I squeezed in a short walk before going into the office this morning. It was dark and gloomy out, something that always makes it difficult to get high-quality photos. But, I did manage to get a few.

One of My Pet Peeves is....

People who go out of their way to criticize something you eat. Whether you mention it in person or post something about it on social media, there always seems to be that one person who has to point out how unhealthy it is and how they would never eat that. It doesn't matter if it's a slice of pizza or (as was actually the case this morning) an ear of corn. My personal philosophy = Don't eat McDonald's on a daily basis but also take the time to enjoy life/food. Yes, it's possible that greasy burger I had the other day will give me a heart attack later in life. But, I could also watch every single thing I eat only to get hit by a bus. Personally, I would rather enjoy what life I am given rather than give everything up for the slim chance I might live a few more years.

Movie Review: It (2017)

Synopsis: A summer after his younger brother disappeared, Bill Denbrough and his friends discover a clown-like demon in the sewers of Derry, Maine that appears every 27 years to terrorize the town. Realizing the demon is weak when they are together, they attempt to stop it. Who's in it? Jaeden Lieberher , Jeremy Ray Taylor , Sophia Lillis , Chosen Jacobs and Finn Wolfhard . Review: I have been very hesitant about watching this movie, mostly because I'm not a huge fan of remakes and, while the previews looked OK, I just couldn't get over those doubts. However, my oldest daughter wanted to see this movie and we had several people tell us it was very scary so I decided to finally give it a try. As it turns out, my first instinct about it was correct. I just didn't think this was that good of a movie. It's not as though I was a huge fan of the 1990 original , which I thought was decent but not overly memorable despite having some well-known actors. It...
