My Oldest Daughter is Starting a New Chapter Today

My daughter, Azalea, made a tough decision this past summer. After switching her major multiple times and schools one time, she decided to take a break from college.

Azalea hasn't ruled out going back at some point. She just didn't see the point in throwing more money at a secondary education if she didn't love the subject she was studying. So, instead, she opted to join the workforce for a while and see if she can find something she's passionate enough about to want to go back to school.

Today, she will be starting as a special education teacher assistant at one of our local elementary schools. She's both excited and nervous because she loves helping kids (she was a figure skating coach in high school) but also knows it will be a lot of work.

Azalea doesn't know if this is something she'll be doing for the rest of her life yet, or just for a couple of years. Our district doesn't hire TAs full time, and she'll eventually need to worry about health insurance, etc. However, it's getting her foot in the door and will hopefully create other opportunities for her. Plus, if she really likes it, she can always go back to school to become a teacher.

Anyway, wish her luck.
