Book Review: A Beautiful Place to Die by Philip R. Craig (1989)

Synopsis: Retired Boston police officer Jefferson Jackson should be enjoying retirement in Martha's Vineyard, focusing on fishing and his new girlfriend, Zee. However, when the fishing boat, the Nellie Grey, mysteriously explodes, killing one of the passengers and seriously injuring the son of one of his best friends, Jeff is asked to find out the cause. This requires him to investigate Martha's Vineyard's seedier side as he looks for a drug dealer that might have ordered a hit on a former customer.

My Thoughts: What happened to the island's underground gases?  When a World War II mine landed on the island, the Professor ( Russell Johnson ) insisted the mine would set off a chain reaction if it exploded because of the gas chambers. Yet that meteorite had a much larger explosion when it hit, and nothing happened. Wow, the Skipper ( Alan Hale, Jr ) sure didn't know a whole lot about meteorites. In addition to referring to it as a meteor rather than the proper term, he insisted it was part of a star. Book Review: The Lady from the Black Lagoon by Mallory O'Meara (2019)

Synopsis: Milicent Patrick lived a full life in Hollywood. She worked in the animation department for Walt Disney, spent some time working as a model and, most famously, helped design the Gill Man costume for Creature from the Black Lagoon . However, because of her gender, most of her accomplishments, including that last one, have been erased from history and/or claimed by men. In this non-fiction biography, the author chases down Milicent's lost legacy and helps her reclaim credit for her work. Review: I love classic monster movies, but I am almost equally a fan of the history surrounding a lot of those classic films. Synopsis: Richie Bridgestone and his divorced father, Robert, spend a father/son weekend at their secluded mountain cabin. While taking a moonlight stroll, they are attacked by a werewolf.
