Review of Salty's Seafood & Spirits in Fond du Lac, WI
My wife and I finally had a chance to have a belated anniversary celebration and decided to do so by heading out of town, visiting Fond du Lac (about 40 minutes away) and having an anniversary lunch.
A friend of ours recommended Salty's Seafood & Spirits and, since we don't have a big selection of seafood restaurants around here, I decided to check it out. We got there a little after 1 yesterday afternoon and were both very impressed.
First of all, the food there was amazing. I would especially recommend their "award winning" cheese seafood soup. My wife and I shared a cup of that and, after leaving the restaurant, kind of regretting not placing a to-go order for more of it. We loved every bite (although it did make me a bit thirsty).
In addition to the soup, I ordered their perch lunch and thought the fish was pretty good as well. The breading was perfectly crisp and had just the right amount of seasonings. And, it proved to be a lot more filling than I expected. My wife ordered the Cajun grouper and enjoyed her lunch as well.
Price-wise, I thought the restaurant was reasonable. We did end up spending almost $50 for lunch, which is a bit unusual for us. But, in addition to our two meals, that price included an appetizer plate and one alcoholic beverage. As a result, I didn't think it was anything outrageously priced.
As far as service goes, I had no complaints. Of course, considering my wife and I have been practically ignored the past couple times we went out to eat, our server really didn't have to do much more than check in on us on occasion and offer to refill my drink. She did that and a bit more.
I think our only real complaint about the restaurant was the lighting. It was kind of dark in there. While some people will say that makes a restaurant more intimate, whenever I enter a dark restaurant, I find myself wondering if the lack of lighting is hiding dust bunnies. At minimum, it did make it difficult for us to read the menus so this would be something to take into consideration if you have difficulty with that.
Final Opinion: Overall, I have to say we enjoyed this restaurant. It was good food and decent service at a reasonable price and I would recommend it as a result.
