I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get a walk in today or if it would start raining around lunchtime. Once I knew for sure the weather was going to remain dry, I decided to go.
We did get rain yesterday though and, since I both knew some of the trails would be muddy as a result and I had no desire to contend with mosquitos, I didn't walk as far as I normally do. Despite this, I was still able to get some photos. Here is a selection of them:
This monarch was a consolation photo. I missed out on three garter snakes on the same path because they were slithering into higher grass by the time I noticed them.
This butterfly presented a bit of a challenge because it simply would not stay still. This was the best out of about thirty attempts to photograph it.
The dragonflies were a bit more of a challenge than usual today too. Every time I'd have one in the perfect position/in focus, a fish would make a splash and startle it.
Not my best turtle photo but I was able to get a picture this time. They are always hanging out on a cluster of rocks just off the shore and are usually diving in the water the second they become visible.
Not a wildlife/bird/bug photo. I just heard the helicopters long before I saw them and decided to grab a photo through the clouds.
I didn't see any birds while on my walk, but I did spot this green heron on the pond near where I parked when I came back to my car.
I didn't even notice this blue heron until I was trying to get a bit closer to the green heron above. It blended in and I had to use my camera lens to confirm it was something alive rather than just a clump of branches.
